The Center for Happy-NESSS

Lifestyle Optimization

The foundation of Functional Medicine is exploring a persons lifestyle habits. There are many habits that can be modified to help the person feel better.

This program is good for a person who does not have a lot of symptoms or chronic illness, but they just want to explore ways to increase the benefits of the Lifestyle activities.

This program is the basis of my approach to wellness.

When I talk about HAPPY-NESSS, I am referring to helping a person to become “Happy” when optimizing their:

This program will include 7 sections. A person can attend all 7 sections or as many as are beneficial to them.

The Nutrition section takes an extensive look at the existing nutrition and food intake. We work together to find ways to improve nutrition with a rationale why certain foods are helpful.

The Exercise/Activity section looks at what is currently being done and what can be done to improve the benefits of movement in a persons life. This section may include a referral to a physical therapist or personal trainer, but there is a lot we can do without those referrals.

The Stress Reduction section assesses what stressors in a persons life may be adding to the sense of feeling unwell. We develop a plan to help the person lessen the stress in their life. While not all stressors can be eliminated, there are many tools to reduce the effects that stress has on the human body.

The Sleep Habits and Hygiene section analyzes the sleep of a person. This section may include a referral to a Sleep Study to help determine the exact nature of the sleep difficulties. Once these are determined, we can develop a treatment plan to improve sleep, which in turn, improves health.

The Social Interactions section examines social factors which may affect health. Once these factors are discovered, we can create a plan to understand these interactions, and correct toxic interactions and increase positive interactions.

The Mental/Emotional/Spiritual section brings to light how these areas may be affecting your health. Then we can identify ways to improve these areas to lead to wellness.

Mental = how a person thinks Emotional = how a person feels Spiritual = a person’s sense of hope

The last section is for Wrapping Up and bringing all of these concepts together.

All of these concepts are also included in the Functional Treatment Plan but are covered in greater detail.
